Background Story[]

You are a descendant of a family of horse racing enthusiasts. Your grandfather was a successful breeder and jockey, as was your father. Their relationship got tense when your father started to be successful as well. Then, your father had a terrible accident during a race which had severe consequences for the stud farm. Soon, the family was not able to pay their bills anymore and they had to leave the breeding and racing business. After your grandfather passes away, his good friend Francis Kwan reaches out for you. He asks you whether you would like to resume the business and help the stud farm regain its fame.

Characters[]

Protagonist - The Player and Jockey[]

When creating a new save slot, the player has the choice between eight different premade characters. The options include that of being male and female which both offer four ethnicities to choose from: White, Black, Asian, and East Asian. Furthermore, the player also has the option to pick from multiple different patterns and colors for their silks. Additionally, the player can also decide the logo through any of the preset icons and colors and create a name for the stud farm. All of these aspects can be changed at any time for no added cost whether or not you play on desktop or mobile.

In order to progress your prestige level, the player must complete the assigned story quests. Furthermore, this will allow you to unlock more chapters of the story line which could not be unlocked or accessed otherwise. The completion of these quests grants the player with additional materials for varied use.

Francis Kwan - Rival Stars Horse Racing

Francis Kwan - The Ranch Manager of Rival Stars Horse Racing

Francis Kwan - The Ranch Manager[]

Francis Kwan was a good friend of the player's grandfather and worked with him as well as your father on the stud farm during their illustrious careers. He is the first character introduced, other than the player, and asks whether you would like to resume the racing business that your family had to previously abandon when his own children had declined the offer.

As the Ranch Manager he maintains the storehouse and homestead and assists with upgrading the facilities. He's a wise horseman and counsels the player throughout the story. Francis also manages the homestead's finances from being rented out as an event venue.

There is a great animosity held between Francis and the Calthorpe family, which is the family of the player's rival, Richard Calthorpe. This seems to stem from a historical economic class inequality between the two stud farms as the Calthorpe's were rival to the player's father as well, indicating a long feud that temporarily ended due to the player's family's bankruptcy. Francis tries to ignore Richards' weak insults but describes him as pompous and arrogant.

TJ

Trenton "TJ" James - The Equine Instructor of Rival Stars Horse Racing

Trenton "TJ" James - The Equine Instructor[]

Trenton "TJ" James is an individual who works at your stud farm and is in charge of training the horses and completing facility upgrades. He is originally introduced after the player's first race at Three Oaks Raceway where he explains how impressed he was and his desire to work together.

He has an aunt who worked as a horse trainer too and gives him advice from time to time. It's her who gave Trenton the will and desire to work with horses and train them. He sometimes worries about her horse race gambling debts.

Trenton has a good relationship with the rest of the characters, especially Sophie, they often have light discussion and help each other. When Trenton mention he is seeing someone, Sophie is very happy for him.

In some later chapter, Trenton reveals the name of his partner: Brandon. He was insecure about revealing that information and waited until the relationship got more serious. This revelation makes Trenton the first openly queer character in the story.

He is not easily upset by Richard's comment on him.

Sophie

Sophie Martin - The Stable Manager of Rival Stars Horse Racing

Sophie Martin - The Stable Manager[]

Sophie works at your stud farm and is in charge of breeding the race horses.

Her family is very important to Sophie. Over the course of the story she and her partner, Paul Taylor, are planning to marry. They have a little daughter, Megan. In the past, Sophie had a terrible riding accident, which is why initially she is afraid to bring her daughter to the stud farm.

Her fiancée/husband, disregards her decision to keep their daughter out of the stables, which makes her upset, she doesn't understand why he doesn't respect her decision. Though, she realizes he brings their daughter to see other stables and is saddened to miss opportunities to have a good time with her family. Later, having seen no accidents have occurred she considers eventually bringing Megan to the stables, it's a work in progress.

She is not impassioned by Richard's comments of her and can be a bit sore, though, she is proud of her work.

Richard Calthorpe

He is the player's rival and also the son of the player father's rival.

He will challenge the player on each racing domain against one of his horses. This rivalry is a family business.

He and Francis have a lot of animosity for each other. Extremely arrogant and proud, Richard keeps belittling the player, his stable, and his team and is upset when the player wins against him during a race. Unlike the player, he inherited his family's stud farm from his father and did not have to rebuild it from the ground up.

He seems to have a lot of respect and admiration for his father and his career and wants to prove himself by making a brilliant career too. He seems to see the player and their stable as a menace to his success and family reputation.

During the challenge at El Trueno, Richard mentions it's been a long time he didn't lose it.

Note: The racing challenges he demands from you tend to be (if the player chooses an appropriate horse) one on one with him while all the other horses are well behind the player and Calthorpe, though, it can happen he arrives third. His dialog does not change.
